Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa were set to take the next step in their relationship by playing Mixed Doubles together at 2023 Wimbledon but that is now not the case.
Badosa had to retire injured earlier against Marta Kostyuk and as expected is now out of the Mixed Doubles.
It was already a herculean effort to even play at Wimbledon for Badosa who shaved time off the expected return date to join her now boyfriend Tsitsipas at SW19.
Defeating Alison Riske-Amritraj yesterday, Kostyuk who is her former best friend was a step too far today.
This means that Nicolas Mahut and Anna Dalinina who are doubles specialists will replace them in the Mixed Doubles draw to face top seeds, Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek.
On other couples watch, Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter remain the stand out power couple left in the draw.
Badosa will likely take her place again in Tsitsipas' box as the Greek ends his clash with Andy Murray later this afternoon meaning it could yet be a blessing in disguise.
