Venus Williams headlines list of US Open wild cards

With the US Open less than two weeks away, the tournament organizers have begun granting wild card entries to select players, with two-time champion Venus Williams being a recipient.

The American will be joined by several other WTA players, including compatriots Hailey Baptiste, Coco Vandeweghe, Catherine McNally, Katie Volynets and Ashlyn Krueger.

Also receiving wild cards to the event are Australian Storm Saunders and Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro, who will be competing at her last US Open and retiring at the end of the year.

On the men's side, #NextGenATP star Jenson Brooksby will be competing at Flushing meadows after receiving a wild card entry. Fellow Americans Jack Sock, Brandon Nakashima, Ernesto Escobedo and Emilio Nava have also been granted wild card entries. They will be joined by Max Purcell, Sam Riffice and Zachary Svajda.
