Jessica Pegula saw 'Cotton Eye Joe' become the soundtrack of her victory at the National Bank Canadian Open (Omnium Banque Nationale) in Montreal.
The American No. 1 soared through her clash against Liudmila Samsonova in the final of the WTA 1000 event. She aced her opponent five times as Samsonova, exhausted after her semi-final match against Elena Rybakina just two hours beforehand, committed six double faults.
In the video posted on Instagram by Omnium Banque Nationale of Pegula's 'crowning moment', the player can be seen laughing as the song is played almost immediately after the match ends, having previously dealt with it interrupting her semi-final against Iga Swiatek.

Song interrupted crucial tiebreak

The popular song by Rednex originally disrupted Pegula's crucial tiebreak against the world No. 1 in their semi-final clash. The 29-year-old was looking ready to secure the match after claiming the first set and leading 4-3 in the tiebreak.
However, the DJ had accidentally queued the song to play during their match, and the interruption led to a point being replayed which gave Swiatek a chance to come back.
The Polish player ended up winning the second set, but Pegula was ultimately able to win the deciding set to progress through to the final.

Pegula amused by song being played again

After her match against Swiatek, Pegula was asked if it affected her game.
"I just thought it was funny. I've never had that happen, let alone with 'Cotton-Eyed Joe.' I was, like, is this really happening right now? Of all the songs. It was just, like, what is going on?" she said.
"Yeah, it was a bummer because I hit a really good lob, and she barely got it, and I had a really good play on the ball, and she was kind of out of position from the lob that I hit."
Thankfully, with the song being played again after her victory, Pegula was able to focus on the funny side, bursting out with laughter.
