Czech Republic’s tennis star
Marie Bouzkova burst into tears
after losing the final of the
Jiangxi Open by a close margin.
The 25-year-old ended up on the losing side in the match to Katerina
Siniakova with a score of 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 on Sunday.
During that match, Bouzkova had three match points but
failed to capitalise on any of them and eventually ended as a runner-up.
The current world number 26 burst into tears while receiving
her runner up trophy.
The defeat would be a hard one to swallow for Bouzkova,
considering how she performed throughout the year at the highest level.
She played in the main draw of all the Grand Slams in 2023
but failed to qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond in any of the mega-events.
Bouzkova’s best appearance in a big tournament this year
came at Wimbledon where she was knocked out after losing to Marketa Vondrousova
in the round of 16 with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Other than that, she lost the first-round encounters in the
Australian Open and French Open whereas she was knocked out of the US Open
after losing the third round to Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur with a score of 5-7, 7-6,
6-3.
