Mirra Andreeva’s defeat to Katerina Siniakova at Indian Wells ended with a moment of visible frustration that quickly drew attention from broadcast cameras. As the players left the court following the match, the Russian teenager appeared to shout an expletive toward the crowd — a moment that was partially captured on the TV broadcast.
The incident occurred after Siniakova completed a comeback victory, defeating the World No. 8 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3 to reach the Round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open. Cameras appeared to pick up Andreeva shouting angrily in the direction of the stands, with audio suggesting she yelled an expletive toward spectators as she exited the court.
The tense reaction came at the end of a match that had already featured several emotional moments. Both players exchanged glances across the court during key points, and Andreeva frequently turned toward her player box while expressing frustration throughout the contest.

A tense and error-filled battle

The match itself proved physically demanding and unpredictable. Siniakova entered the third-round clash having already spent more than five hours on court in the earlier rounds, yet she managed to withstand the pressure and eventually outlast the defending champion.
Andreeva started strongly despite a difficult opening, recovering from an early 3-0 deficit in the first set. The 18-year-old won six of the final seven games to take the opener, but problems with her forehand remained throughout the match.
Those issues became more visible as the contest progressed. In total, Andreeva committed 75 unforced errors, compared with 62 from Siniakova, reflecting the inconsistency that plagued her performance. The Russian also showed clear frustration during the second set, including smashing her racquet several times after losing the tie-break — an outburst that resulted in a code violation.

Siniakova secures major comeback

After levelling the match in the second-set tie-break, Siniakova carried that momentum into the decider. The Czech gradually took control of the rallies and capitalised on Andreeva’s mistakes to close out the match after two hours and 48 minutes.
The victory sends Siniakova into the Round of 16 at Indian Wells, marking her seventh career appearance in the fourth round of a WTA 1000 event. She will next face Elina Svitolina, who defeated Ashlyn Krueger in straight sets. Svitolina currently holds a 4–0 head-to-head advantage over the Czech, including a previous meeting at Indian Wells in 2024.
