Iga Swiatek celebrating at the US Open
The third round of the WTA Indian Wells produced several notable results as Jessica Pegula, Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina progressed to the Round of 16, while Katerina Siniakova delivered one of the biggest surprises of the day by eliminating defending champion Mirra Andreeva. Another upset came from Britain’s Sonay Kartal, who recovered from a set down to defeat Madison Keys and continue her impressive run in the California desert.
The results further shaped the latter stages of the draw, with Pegula continuing her consistent 2026 campaign and Swiatek maintaining strong form as one of the tournament favourites. Meanwhile, Siniakova’s victory removed the reigning champion from the field, while Kartal’s win over Keys marked one of the most significant victories of her career as the event moves toward the second week.

Iga Swiatek 6-3, 6-2 Maria Sakkari

Iga Swiatek recovered from an early deficit to defeat Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-2 and secure her place in the fourth round at Indian Wells. The world No. 2 gradually imposed her consistency from the baseline after a difficult opening phase against the Greek.
Sakkari began the match strongly, breaking serve in the opening game and briefly controlling the early exchanges. However, Swiatek quickly settled into the match and began dictating rallies with deeper groundstrokes and aggressive returning. After recovering the break, the Pole found her rhythm and won five of the next six games to take the opening set. Her ability to pressure Sakkari’s serve proved decisive, particularly when attacking second deliveries and forcing the Greek into defensive positions.
The second set followed a similar pattern. Sakkari briefly broke back to level the set at 2-2, but Swiatek responded immediately by regaining the advantage and maintaining control through consistent baseline play. The Pole eventually secured a double break and closed out the match comfortably.
Statistically, Swiatek dominated Sakkari’s second serve, winning 79% of those points while maintaining solid efficiency behind her own delivery. With the victory, Swiatek advances to the fourth round where she will face 13th seed Karolina Muchova in one of the most anticipated matchups of the next stage.

Jessica Pegula recovered from a difficult start to defeat Jelena Ostapenko 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and advance to the fourth round at Indian Wells. The American gradually imposed her consistency after a challenging opening set against the aggressive Latvian.
Ostapenko began the match strongly, applying early pressure from the baseline and securing a crucial break midway through the first set. Pegula struggled initially to contain the Latvian’s attacking style, and Ostapenko closed out the set after maintaining control of the rallies during the closing games.
The momentum began to shift during the second set as Pegula adjusted her return positioning and extended rallies. After trailing early, the American produced a decisive surge by winning the final five games of the set to level the match and force a deciding third.
In the final set, Pegula carried that momentum forward. After an early exchange of breaks, the world No. 5 gradually took control with her consistency from the baseline and improved serving. She closed out the victory by winning five of the last six games.

Katerina Siniakova produced one of the most notable results of the session by defeating defending champion Mirra Andreeva 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in a physically demanding contest lasting more than two and a half hours. Andreeva appeared in control early in the match. The 18-year-old recovered from a break deficit in the first set and won four consecutive games to secure the opener 6-4, continuing the strong form she had shown earlier in the tournament.
