Emma Raducanu
is training vigorously in California to compete in the BNP Paribas Open Indian
Wells after qualifying for the main draw.
The British
player has not had an easy start to the year, as she has had to fight against
injuries and has not played a match since her defeat to Coco Gauff in the
second round of the Australian Open. The former US Open champion was ready to
return to the courts at the ATX Open, but tonsillitis prevented her from
playing in the tournament.
Ranked World No. 80, Raducanu has not found
consistency since her incredible triumph at the 2021 US Open, where she
surprised the tennis world at just 18 years old. Now she is training in
California to play a big tournament, despite not having had the best
preparation due to the injuries she has suffered.
Raducanu
was already assured of a Wild Card in
Indian Wells, but she ultimately qualified
based on her ranking. She also secured her participation in the
Miami Open
thanks to a tournament invitation. Adding both tournaments, she defends 100
points and will seek to achieve a better performance to climb up the rankings
before the clay court season starts, which for her begins at the Porsche Tennis
Grand Prix Stuttgart.
