In an epic Stars of the Open, it featured many names of past and present tennis fame and one mixed doubles match featured four of the current stars.
Iga Swiatek teamed with Sebastian Korda to face off against
Matteo Berrettini and Jasmine Paolini.
But Swiatek and Berrettini had their own battle going. Some quipped that Swiatek's game would be a nightmare for Berrettini on social media when the teams were announced and that did prove to be the case.
During an important juncture of the match tie-break, Swiatek decided to go toe to toe with Berrettini in a pulsating rally. So much so that Korda decided to step off the court and watched from the benches instead of trying to get involved. Berrettini was teaming with fellow Italian ace Jasmine Paolini who currently anchors their efforts from a WTA perspective.
A player that no doubt has to get used to events like this too after her incredible rise in 2024. While for Swiatek and Berrettini, it is fairly common. The Italians came out on top in the match tie-break. But all four players agreed it was a blast to play in front of the New York crowd before the main draw kicks off on Monday.
They will all find out their fate this evening with the draw taking place for the
US Open at around 6pm BST on Thursday evening.
