Daria Kasatkina has blasted the current marketing strategy of women's tennis by the WTA calling WTA TV one of the worst platforms in tennis that can't even be found on web search.
The WTA split from having their product on Tennis TV which now only shows ATP Tennis with social media heavily being used to clip the best moments which go viral and keep the ATP product very much on the lips of tennis fans. But women's tennis outside of main broadcasters is harder to find.
Kasatkina who herself runs her own YouTube channel with vlogs of life on the tour as a result knows how to use social media and cited the lack of TikTok coverage (a major platform) as an example of how women's tennis isn't promoted. She said that it hasn't been used since COVID-19 since it was created and that the WTA now has to 'get this car up and running' and use what they've got to market the sport better.
“I wouldn't separate WTA from TennisTV. It used to be one thing. Now WTA TV is one of the worst platforms, you can't even find it on a web search. TennisTV is the coolest, they promote tennis very well. I would look towards promotion, there's a huge potential," said Kasatkina to journalist Elis Kostik on telegra.ph.
"It feels like they don't intentionally promote women's tennis, & that's very disappointing. If you look at the WTA’s TikTok, it was created in 2020 during the COVID-19, & the last video was published at that time. After all, the WTA has the platform, the fans, you just have to get this car up & running. What's wrong with them? To be honest, I can't answer that question.”
