Iga Swiatek is set to compete at the
Canadian Open in Montreal next week, but who could the world No. 1 be facing on her potential path to the final?
Swiatek has had a strong season on the WTA Tour this year. She has retained her position at the top of the rankings by winning tournaments such as the Qatar Open and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
The Polish player also won her fourth Grand Slam title at the French Open earlier this year, and became the first player to lift the Warsaw Open trophy on home soil last week.
Swiatek hopes for a good run in Montreal
Swiatek is now preparing to compete at the Canadian Open, and will be hoping for a much more successful run than last year. In 2022, Swiatek was defeated in her second-round match against
Beatriz Haddad Maia, with the Brazilian player winning 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Now, social media platform Relevant Tennis has mapped out Swiatek's possible path to victory this year by predicting every player she could face in each round.
After a bye in the first round, the 22-year-old could face either China's Zhu Lin or Czech player Karolina Pliskova in her opening match. Then it's between Varvara Gracheva, Sorana Cirstea, Anastasia Potapova, or Karolina Muchova as to who she could face in her third round.
The list goes on to predict a face-off between Haddad Maia, Elina Svitolina, Maria Sakkari, or Linda Noskova in the quarter-finals. Then, if Swiatek gets past that, she could meet Jessica Pegula, Caroline Wozniacki, Venus Williams, Noskova, Donna Vekic, Coco Gauff or Marketa Vondrousova in the semi-final.
Finally, it could be a head-to-head against world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the final, or failing that Swiatek could face Elena Rybakina, Caroline Garcia, Daria Kasatkina, or Kvitova.
Regardless of who exactly the world No. 1 faces at each point in the tournament, it will surely be an exciting watch if Swiatek turns up ready to win.
