The draw has been completed for the 2024 Canadian Open (also known as the National Bank Open and Rogers Cup under sponsorship guises). It will take place between Aug 6 - Aug 12, 2024 in Toronto in the case of the WTA Draw which was confirmed first.
A lot of big names due to the proximity of the Olympic Games decided against playing including Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Maria Sakkari, Marketa Vondrousova and Caroline Garcia. Albeit some were due to the quick turnaround, others were due to injury and illness.
Coco Gauff leads the field as a result alongside Jessica Pegula who is the defending champion as well as Aryna Sabalenka. As well as those names, the draw will as ever feature Canadian interest with Leylah Fernandez and Bianca Andreescu leading home hopes. The latter in particular has been playing well as of late and will hope to recapture the magic of 2019.
Back then en route to winning the US Open, Andreescu was one of the best players in the world and defeated Serena Williams at the Rogers Cup breaking out before her big run. She will face off against Lesia Tsurenko.
Sabalenka who is second seed will face off against Yue Yuan or Cristina Bucsa in the second round. While Gauff will face the winner of a qualifier or Sofia Kenin. Pegula as defending champion will face Nadia Podoroska or Karolina Pliskova. Jelena Ostapenko will face Paula Badosa or Clara Tauson.
Other ties include Madison Keys potentially against Peyton Stearns, Ons Jabeur faces Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka takes on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
