Aryna Sabalenka is the favourite for this year's
French Open and it isn't hard to see why given her start to the event on Sunday afternoon as she barely broke a sweat in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kamilla Rakhimova.
Tougher tests will come over the next fortnight at
Roland Garros but getting past the first is always the tricky one and she has done just that in emphatic fashion in just 59 minutes.
Sabalenka was first up on Court Philippe-Chatrier and faces a bit of a unique situation this year. She is favourite for the title despite not winning it in her career and also it usually being the house that Iga Swiatek inhabits.
But Swiatek has a rough draw and is also going through a slump on the surface for the first time during her reign as the Queen of Clay so won't be favoured this next two weeks.
Sabalenka hit 30 winners to 17 unforced errors in just under one hour. Zheng Qinwen defeated her last up in Rome winning 6-4, 6-3 while in Madrid, she defeated Coco Gauff in the final 6-3, 7-6 so has continued on from there after her last loss.
Petra Kvitova has been defeated elsewhere with the Czech ace winning the first set but then winning just four more games en route to a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 loss to Viktorija Golubic. Alexandra Eala is also on the verge of losing the first set to Emiliana Arango 5-0.
Others in action this afternoon include Zheng Qinwen, Diana Shnaider, Donna Vekic, Jasmine Paolini and Amanda Anisimova but Sabalenka is through successfully.
