Garbine Muguruza has two grand slams titles to her name but the Spaniard thinks that she should have more than that.
Garbine Muguruza won her 2nd title of 2021 last week in Chicago and after the match, the Spaniard spoke about the event, this year and her career in general. Reaching the final in Chicago was an interesting quest as Muguruza found herself being handed a walkover twice en route to the final. On that she said:
"It was strange to play two fewer games than usual to get to the final running into a great tennis player like Ons Jabeur. When this happens, you get to the last game fresher, but it's not easy to manage mentally."
Despite a lackluster year overall Muguruza is happy with her current form and title saying:
"I am very happy to have succeeded and to be able to show all this energy on the court. Of course, I would have liked to have had better results in the Grand Slam tournaments, but I feel that my level of play has been very good throughout the year."
The level she displayed has certainly been more than good but the consistency was a bit lacklustre. An injury blow at the start of the clay season did not help as she never quite found the rhythm during the European clay season.
She will be hoping to do some damage in Indian Wells where the condition work well with her playstyle.
