This Saturday, the final of the first WTA 1000 of the season took place at the
Qatar Open in Doha, and
Karolina Muchova ended up taking the most important title of her career, defeating the new top-10
Victoria Mboko 6-4, 7-5. The Czech claimed only the second title of her career and her first in seven years.
The 29-year-old had a confident performance, taking advantage of key points and maintaining composure when the pressure was on her side. Muchova gets revenge after five finals lost in her career – two of them WTA 1000 finals, as well as the French Open 2022 final. The talented Czech rises to new No. 11 in the rankings, while both finalists have positioned themselves in the top 4 of the 2026 WTA Race.
Muchova also breaks the
remarkable record she held – which had made her the player with the highest win rate in WTA 1000 tournaments without winning a title. The Czech secures the most important title of her career.
Tight first set sees Muchova take control
From the start, both players appeared focused, although unforced errors came mainly from the Canadian’s side. Muchova put pressure on her opponent’s service, but could not do too much damage. By 3-3, both players had held their service games without facing break points until that moment.
In the 7th game, the first break opportunities arrived, on Muchova’s side, and she took her first chance to go ahead. With 4-3 in her favor, the Czech held on to her service – she wasted a set point on the return at 5-3, but finally had no trouble closing the first set with her serve 6-4. The world No. 19 was relentless on serve, hitting 75% of first serves in and winning 86% of them.
Second set tension builds
The second set started tightly, with both players defending their first service games without major issues. By 2-2, neither had an advantage, when Mboko faced 0-40. However, the Canadian showed poise and handled points under pressure, absorbing several first serves – including two aces – and held serve in a difficult moment.
The momentum quickly shifted, as Mboko immediately took a break in the next game to go ahead 4-2. The differences were evident for Muchova when playing first or second serves. She maintained over 80% effectiveness on her first serve, but Mboko went after winners on the Czech’s second serves. Muchova kept her concentration and in the next game quickly recovered the break.
The score reached 4-4, and the tension was palpable. Both held tense service games until 5-5, a moment when Muchova had a break opportunity, but could not convert after a net error. However, on her second chance, Mboko made the error, and Muchova went ahead, ensuring she would serve to close out the triumph.
The former Roland Garros runner-up showed her hierarchy and experience, successfully holding her serve to win the triumph 6-4, 7-5 and claim the second title of her career.

Muchova earns deserved WTA 1000 crown
The Czech finally secures a deserved WTA 1000 title – only the second trophy of her career and her first since 2019. After a week of remarkable tennis, the talented player receives her reward following years of battling among the best despite injuries. She ensures a rise in the rankings up to No. 11 and becomes the first WTA 1000 champion of the season.
On the other hand, Mboko finishes another great week, reaching her second final of the season, as well as the second WTA 1000 final of her career. The teenager secured her place in the top-10 after reaching the semifinals and positions herself as No. 10.
Both Mboko and Muchova currently have their participation in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships next week confirmed, although a last-minute withdrawal from either after an outstanding week in Doha would not be surprising.
