WTA Rankings Update: Swiatek and Krejcikova move up as Osaka continues slide

After a solid week of tennis on the WTA tour, we have a new WTA ranking with Iga Swiatek and Barbora Krejcikova moving up and Naomi Osaka sliding down.
No top name played last week on the WTA tour but with two events going on there were still plenty of changes. In the top ten Swiatek and Krejcikova moved up as Naomi Osaka and Sofia Kenin dropped down. Osaka is now ranked 8th and fairly close to dropping out of the top 10. Alisson Riske had a solid week in Portoroz and she moved up 6 spots to number 32.
Jasmine Paolini won that event after a stellar week of tennis and the 25-year old jumped up 23 spots to number 64. It is a new career-high ranking for the Italian who won her first title away from the clay she prefers. The 2nd winner of the week was Clara Tauson who won the event in Luxembourg. That allowed her to jump 18 spots to number 52.
The Danish player is slowly making her way to the top of tennis with 2 trophies in 2021. In total 18 players reached a new career high today and they are: Krejcikova at 5, Swiatek at 6, Sakkari at 12, Rybakina at 16, Jabeur at 17, Raducanu at 22, Pegula at 23, Zidansek at 33, Samsonova at 44 Tauson at 52. Furthermore we have Kalinina at 63, Paolini at 64, Trevisan at 66, Sherif at 73, Minnen at 75, Parrizas at 86, Liu at 96 and Ruse at 99.

- If they find a good balance it does not really matter. Wild Cards are a nice tool to give players a chance but also to fill seats. Is that fair? That discussion will always be there. And discussion is also good for tennis 😁 I think it is good to have them.

- I heartily disagree with Stubbs here. I mean c'mon! The whole idea of giving out wildcards is to give new & up-coming players a chance at getting as much circuit match-practice under their belts as possible. And this is a HUGE must and opportunity for these new kids on the block. Why curtail opportunities for these newbies in favour of stalwart monopoly?? That just isn't fair. At least give these lesser known players a chance to become more familiar at playing in bigger tournaments & give them also a chance of getting the crowds behind these underdogs.
