Tennis fans were left amused when Alexis Ohanian, husband of
Serena Williams, apparently took a subtle dig at
Simona Halep following the latter's four-year suspension for doping.
Halep had been placed under provisional suspension by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) since October 2022, which prevented her from playing tennis. The Romanian had been charged with violating anti-doping regulations, and it was finally announced this week that she would be hit with a four-year ban.
Ohanian makes subtle remark regarding Halep's suspension
The Reddit co-founder took to social media to share a picture of himself taken during Williams' first-round match against Maria Sharapova at the 2019 US Open. The picture was of Ohanian sporting a D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) t-shirt.
"Some fashion is timeless," wrote Ohanian.
Tennis fans reacted strongly to the post, with several seemingly amused at the subtle dig taken towards Halep.
"Oh This is Sooooooooooo Good!!!!!! 😂 Justice for Serena Williams ❤️ 😎 Looks Like a 24th Title Win To Meeeeeee…. 😎 " a fan posted.
"Yall be petty all day on this app 😂 It's truly inspirational," wrote another fan.
"So messy but I love it so much," wrote an amused fan.
"Find a man that will throw shade on your behalf as consistently as @alexisohanian," said a fan.
