Emma Raducanu's woes continue with the Brit deciding to withdraw from next week's Madrid Open as expected due to her continued struggle amid a viral illness she suffered during Cluj all the way back in February.
Raducanu also decided to withdraw from the WTA events in Miami and Linz and she prioritised a return to action when she is ready after she played Indian Wells and various tournaments in the Middle East somewhat undercooked.
Raducanu who decided to sit out the Billie Jean King Cup tie against Australia also to play Linz which she promptly withdrew from is understood to be back training and hopeful of playing in Rome at the start of May.
But the former US Open champion has seen Madrid as a step too far. It also is confirmed that Sonay Kartal will not play in Madrid either after her injury struggles leaving the top Brits apart from Katie Boulter out of contention.
Raducanu last played in March and was easily beaten by Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells and admitted she felt underpowered during the tournament.

Raducanu continues to struggle

"I need to obviously be aggressive when playing those players, but I think there's still a long way to go to be doing that and I need to use my strengths and probably mix it up a bit more," she said.
She is back working with Mark Petchey on an in-formal basis but of course that has also not really born fruit yet as she hasn't really been playing at all for the past few months due to her injury struggles.

She becomes the latest big name to withdraw with Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Sonay Kartal and Barbora Krejcikova also pulling out.
It leaves her in limbo as is often the case with her clay court season with injury usually being an issue this time of year for Raducanu and often given the wildcards on offer in her home country, she decides to move onto grass early. This after she had such a promising tournament in Cluj earlier this season.
