The
Miami Open has produced an unexpected off-court storyline as
Danielle Collins and
Corentin Moutet exchanged remarks across broadcast and social media during the tournament’s opening days. The former World No. 8, sidelined from competition in 2026, has taken on a visible role as an on-site analyst during the tournament.
Collins, who won the
Miami Open title in 2024, has been absent from the tour this season while managing ongoing health issues related to endometriosis. At 32, she is still expected to return to competition, but her presence in
Miami has instead come through broadcast work, where her direct and candid tone has quickly become part of the event’s wider narrative.
During a live segment, Collins recounted an interaction with Moutet, framing it in competitive terms and delivering a response that quickly circulated online. “If you’re going to be flirting with me like that, you’re going to have to get a bigger serve.”
She reinforced the point by adding that “big forehands and big serves” ultimately matter most, setting the tone for a segment that blended humour with directness.
Collins recounts exchange on air
Collins continued by detailing the background to the exchange, linking it to a previous social media moment that had already generated discussion. Her explanation added context to the dynamic, while maintaining the same direct tone that has defined her public persona.
“It was kind of funny too, because he unfollowed me after my viral dating profile
when I said I wasn’t interested in the short kings," the former Miami Open champion said. "You have to understand that I’m 5’10”, and for me, it’s fair. It’s just a preference, nothing against the short kings. But he was upset about that, and he messaged me and then unfollowed me. I no longer like you either, by the way.”
She also referenced a follow-up message after Moutet’s match, noting that the exchange continued beyond the initial interaction. “Now he slid back into the DMs last night asking me if I saw his match and all the big serves that he was hitting,” Collins said, as she made clear that her position had not changed. “He would have to bring a lot to the table, so I don’t think it’s going to happen, but who knows? We’ll see.”
Moutet responds publicly on social media
Moutet later responded through his official social media account, disputing Collins’ version of events and directly addressing both her comments and the broadcast.
“How can I unfollow you when I never followed you? @TennisChannel how can you let someone say BS like this on TV You followed me. You asked me for mixed dubs. And I’ve never even followed you. You (are) ready to say anything so people talks about you. You should learn how to love yourself so you won’t have to do stupid things for people loves @TennisChannel good sport journalist”
Moutet, who opened his Miami campaign with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 win over Tomas Machac, will now look to carry that momentum into the next stage of the tournament, where he is set to face World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. While the off-court exchange has drawn attention, his immediate focus shifts to a significantly tougher test, with consistency at Masters 1000 level likely to be decisive against one of the tour’s most dominant players.
