Zheng Qinwen has added yet another accolade to her collection as she was crowned by the WTA as the 2024 Shot of the Year for her effort in Wuhan against Aryna Sabalenka on home soil.

A poll was compiled by the WTA which has been voted on for the last three weeks, the fans voted for favourite points in a bracket system which meant that a multitude of different shots made it through the rounds. After over 60,000 votes were cast, Zheng Qinwen won through from her third set of the Wuhan Open final against Sabalenka.

She earned 68% of the vote and embodied the excitement felt by the crowd inside of her home arena. Pertaining to an all-court rally which was ended with a forehand winner, it saw the crowd roar and the Chinese hero do so too. In fact, she technically claimed 70% of the overall vote having come fourth also with her effort in Palermo with 2%.

Iga Swiatek was a distant second. She claimed 15,590 votes for her passing winner in the Madrid final. This claimed 24% of the vote. Beatriz Haddad Maia's Dubai winner took third place. It saw 112 points considered for said award so in reality could've been any myriad of outcome.

But it is obvious that Zheng Qinwen was the clear winner. A year that has seen her ascend to new heights both on and off the court becoming one of the highest paid female athletes in the world and a star both at home and further afield. Reaching her first Grand Slam final, winning multiple titles and also reaching the final at the WTA Finals, it has been some 2024 for Zheng Qinwen.

While she wouldn't be considered for the main Player of the Year won by Aryna Sabalenka, it shows her brilliance that she picks up other accolades.
