Tamara Zidansek and Elena Rybakina set up a semifinal clash at Roland Garros following victories on Tuesday.
Zidansek was the first player to play on Tuesday and she defeated Paula Badosa 2-1. The Slovenian player complicated things in the match quite a bit but she was still able to win it. In the first set, she was down 0-3 before completely turning the match around eventually winning the first set 7-5.
She had a lead several times in the 2nd set but could not win her own service games squandering it several times. She lost the 2nd set after allowing a 4-game run by Badosa for the final score of 4-6. She was down 0-2 early in the third bit rallied to win it 8-6.
Her opponent in the French Open semifinal will be Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who defeated Elena Rybakina 2-1 in an epic match. All sets featured a heavy battle between the doubles partner but it was Rybakina who had it going early. She had a 3-1 lead but Nastia was able to force a tiebreak. In it was Rybakina who proved better 7-2.
The 2nd set featured a strong comeback by Nastia who won it 6-2 after some stellar shotmaking. Pavlyuchenkova was more precise in rallies all day long hitting a similar number of winners as Rybakina but also way fewer errors. The final set was a rollercoaster as Nastia took an early 2-0 lead.
Rybakina came back to make it 3-2 with a break up but in the end, it was Pavlyuchenkova who won it 9-7. She won because she was simply more solid from start to finish.
