The 54th edition of the 2023 Stockholm Open will take place from October 16-22 at the Kungliga tennishallen. Now, the entry list for one of the oldest ATP 250 events has been released.
World No. 4 Holger Rune will be the top seed at the tournament, where he will aim to defend his title from last year. The Dane swept past Cameron Norrie and Alex de Minaur on his way to the final, where he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
However, his recent track record on the ATP Tour has been a lot less successful as he deals with a painful back injury. Over the summer, Rune was ousted in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 Canadian Open before retiring from his opening match at the Cincinnati Masters. He then crashed out of the US Open in the first round and withdrew from this week's Laver Cup due to injury.
The second seed will be World No. 24 Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutch player has won the Maharashtra Open in Pune and the Libema Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch this season. He also made it to the final of the DC Open in August.
Seeded third is Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who is currently ranked No. 25 in the world. The Spaniard reached the semi-finals of the Canadian Open in Toronto last month.
The fourth seed will be Dan Evans, who won the ATP 500 Citi Open in August. However, the Brit was then ousted in the first round in Canada and Cincinnati but did make it to the third round of the US Open.
Argentina's Sebastian Baez is the fifth seed in the tournament. The World No. 28 won his first hard-court title last month at the Winston-Salem Open. He defeated Jiri Lehecka with a straight-sets victory in the final, 6-4, 6-3.
Lehecka will also be at the event as the sixth seed, while Christopher Eubanks and Adrian Mannarino round out the top eight.
Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils also feature in the line-up. The Swiss player is returning to the tournament for the first time in twelve years - he was defeated in the second round back in 2011. This was the same year that Monfils won the tournament.
