The
quarterfinals of the 2023
French Open will see a rematch between
Casper Ruud
and
Holger Rune from
Roland Garros 2022.
There are
two spots remaining in the semifinals of Roland Garros for the players in the
bottom half of the draw. The 4th seed Casper Ruud and the 6th seed Holger Rune
have lived up to their favoritism in each of their matches leading up to the
quarterfinals, setting the stage for a rematch of their encounter in the 2022
French Open.
On that
occasion, a dramatic duel unfolded from the beginning, with intense exchanges
that ended in victory for Ruud in four sets. With emotions running high, the
Norwegian secured a crucial break against Rune, who expressed his frustration
by shouting at his mother to leave the stadium.
During the
match point of their encounter, Rune requested a review and disagreed with the
umpire's decision. He then proceeded to give a cold handshake at the net to
Ruud, who displayed a disapproving gesture without appearing too impressed.
Following the controversy, the Danish player accused his opponent of shouting
points in his face.
“He just
goes straight to me and shouts 'JAAAA' straight up in my face. You can cheer on
the court all you want. But that's such a bad style. Have a little respect,” Rune
said.
