Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic has stated that
he still has ‘fire going’ despite playing at the highest level for more than 20
years.
The 36-year-old is arguably one of the greatest players — if
not the greatest — to have played in the men’s singles category in the Open
era.
Talking about it ahead of the upcoming Western &
Southern Cincinnati Open, Djokovic stated that he is still looking forward
to winning more accolades on the court.
“I like the feeling that I have after 20-plus years of
professional tennis. There's still fire going,” he said. “There's still that
drive and motivation to really come at the biggest events in sport and try to
win, try to win titles and try to bring some good sensation to the crowds.”
Djokovic has won 23 Grand Slams in his career, more than any
player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era.
The most successful competition for the Belgrade-born has been
the Australian Open where he has lifted the title a record 10 times.
In the
US Open, Djokovic’s success rate is far lower where
he has won the title three times, the last of which came in 2018 when he defeated
Argentina’s Juan Martín del Potro with a score of 6–3, 7–6(7–4), 6–3.
