Carlos
Alcaraz displayed his best game to defeat
Thanasi Kokkinakis at the BNP Paribas
Open
Indian Wells with 6-3, 6-3.
Carlos
Alcaraz played his first match since the injury he suffered in the Rio Open
final against Cameron Norrie. The Spaniard had already missed the start of the
season, including the Australian Open, and began his season in the South
American tournaments, winning the Argentina Open and finishing as runner-up in
the Rio Open (lost to Cameron Norrie).
The young
star dispelled doubts about his physical condition in the California tournament
with a superb level against the Australian. Kokkinakis had to go through the
qualifiers and the first-round match against Brandon Holt before meeting
Alcaraz.
The first
set was an absolute domination by
Carlos Alcaraz, who only conceded one point
playing with his serve and put Kokkinakis in trouble every time he played with
his second serve. Alcaraz broke at the start of the match and maintained the
advantage until reaching 6-3. In the second set, he got two breaks to eliminate
the Australian and take another 6-3, which puts him in the third round, where
the 31st seed Tallon Griekspoor awaits him.
