Paula
Badosa won the all-Spanish match against Nuria Parrizas and advances in the BNP
Paribas Open
Indian Wells with 6-2, 7-6.
Paula
Badosa hadn't won a match since the Adelaide International 2 in early January
when she reached the tournament semifinals after defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia,
but in the semifinals, she had to withdraw before the match against Daria
Kasatkina.
After that, she had to withdraw from the Australian Open and in Doha
and suffered two first-round defeats before arriving in California. The former
world No. 2 has dropped out of the top 20, and now she must defend the
semifinal points she earned last year if she wants to stay in the upper part of
the ranking.
Parrizas
Díaz made her debut at Indian Wells against Italian Elisabetta Cocciareto with
a two-set victory, and she was facing her compatriot and former Indian Wells
champion for the first time in her career. Badosa dominated the match through
her serve and easily took the first set 6-2.
In the second set, the 25-year-old
player was superior and served to win the match at 5-4, but Parrizas stretched
the match a bit longer, which was no problem for Badosa, who finally won 6-2,
7-6. In the third round, she will have to challenge former Wimbledon champion
and 10th seed Elena Rybakina.
