The One Point Slam is set to make a return in 2026, with a strong lineup ready to compete for the huge sum of money on offer. World number one
Carlos Alcaraz, reigning major champion
Jannik Sinner and home favourite
Nick Kyrgios will compete in the event.
It is a unique event where a mix of professionals, amateurs and celebrities challenge the best players in the world to one point. There is a huge £498k (AUD$1m) on the line. In total, 48 players will be competing for this lucrative prize pot. They get just one point to defeat their opponent, with a game of rock, paper, scissors deciding who gets to serve. It will also be competed on the Rod Laver Arena. It is the largest show court at the Australian Open, able to hold up just under 15,000 fans and will be the location where the title will be won.
However, beforehand it will be the One Point Slam on the minds of many. The event seems to have got a huge upgrade on this year's event. The only top-10 player to attend was Andrey Rublev, and he surprisingly suffered a quarter-final defeat after his one and only serve found its way into the net. The much smaller prize pot of £29,400 went to Australian professional Omar Jasika.
Alcaraz, Sinner and Kyrgios set to focus on upcoming exhibitions
It is set to be a hugely important period for the three tennis players for different reasons. With the Australian Open coming up, Sinner is looking to defend his title for a third successive year and once again snatch the number one tag off Alcaraz. The Spaniard himself is targeting glory in the one major he is yet to win. He has never managed to make it past the quarter-finals in the competition, a huge outlier in what is normally impressive results in Grand Slams.
The duo are both turning their attention to exhibitions ahead of the big event. Alcaraz has recently participated in A Racquet at The Rock in Newark, New Jersey. There he was defeated to Frances Tiafoe. He will be hoping to get back into the winning enclosure as he plays in the Miami Invitational on December 8, clashing against Joao Fonseca in an eagerly awaited matchup.
Into the new year, and the big two will meet for the first time in 2026. They are set to renew their rivalry at the Hyundai Card Super Match in Incheon, South Korea on January 10. After the One Point Slam, Alcaraz will face off against Aussie Alex de Minaur on January 15 while Sinner will clash against Felix Auger-Aliassime a day later.
For Kyrgios, he is targeting a popular return to the Australian Open in his native land. He recently returned to the court in the
Atlanta Cup exhibition, losing to Ben Shelton. Before 2025 ends, he will be competing in the Battle of the Sexes against world number one Aryna Sabalenka on December 28 in Dubai.
All of this is to get him in the best shape possible to feature in Melbourne. He made a brief cameo earlier this year, losing in the first round to Jacob Fearnley. The former Wimbledon finalist has struggled with injuries, specifically to his wrist and knee. However, after numerous setbacks throughout 2025, this could be the 30-year-old's chance to rejuvenate his tennis career.
