Alexander Zverev who is sixth seed at Indian Wells was one of the victors through the night as he took down Tallon Griekspoor in a 7-6, 6-3 win in one hour and 44 minutes to reach the Last 16 of the Indian Wells Open on Sunday.
It was a game of frustration for the Dutchman who led 5-3 in the first set and had two set points in the tiebreak, but he wasn't able to convert. His frustrations after losing the first set saw him beat the living daylights out of his racquet and served to help Zverev's cause.
Zverev who is ranked No.6 will play Australian Alex de Minaur, the 10th seed next in a blockbuster clash. The German holds a 6-2 lead in the Head to Head over the Australian, but De Minaur who recently has been in stellar form defeated Zverev at their most recent meeting at the United Cup earlier this year. De Minaur has come from defending his Acapulco title and took out Alexander Bublik also on Sunday to extend that run.
Zverev who previously saw off Christopher O'Connell to reach this point did not have it easy in winning through against Griekspoor, but he sealed the second 6-3 in order to claim his spot in the Last 16 in a night that also saw supreme German success for Angelique Kerber as both fly the flag for Germany.
