World number one Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic has achieved yet another
milestone after registering a win at the
Indian Wells.
The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in
the history of tennis in the men’s singles category in the Open era, having won
as many as 24 Grand Slams in his illustrious career.
Djokovic had a hard time at the beginning of the 2024 season
as his journey in the Australian Open came to an end after losing to Italy’s
Jannik Sinner in the semifinal with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner is currently taking part in
the Indian Wells where he defeated Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic in the round of
64 clash with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
That victory was the 400th win for the Belgrade-born
in the ATP 1000 event and he is now edging closer to overtaking the former
world number one Spain’s
Rafael Nadal.
The 37-year-old has registered 408 wins in the ATP 1000
events which is the most by any player in the category. With Nadal not playing
in the competition and is unlike to take part in the upcoming Miami Open, Djokovic
now has a real opportunity of overtaking him in the category.
Djokovic will now face Italy’s
Luca Nardi in the round of 32
clash of the competition on Monday.
