Germany’s young and upcoming tennis star
Eva Lys has issued
a detailed statement about why she has remained absent from different events.
The 22-year-old is highly rated in the tennis community but has
her progress being halted with breaks in between.
Lys recently posted a detailed statement on her official account
on the social media platform Instagram where she revealed that she is suffering
from ‘rheumatic autoimmune disease’ which makes it difficult for her to participate
in some events.
“Dear All, I am reaching out to you today with a personal
message that is very close to my heart because I enjoy sharing my athletic journey
with you, and your support means a tremendous amount to me,” wrote Lys.
“In recent months, I have been receiving an increasing
number of messages asking about my personal condition, since I have had to skip
a tournament or two. In 2020, shortly
after winning my first ITF 25K title, I was diagnosed with a rheumatic autoimmune
disease (spondylarthritis). This has been a physical challenge that I face
every day alongside the demands of my sport.
“Thanks to fantastic support and treatment from my medical
team, I am still able to pursue my athletic dreams and bring out the best in myself.
However, there are times when I am forced to make last-minute changes and
adjustments to my tournament schedule.
“Throughout my athletic career, I have often been told from
the outside that I am too weak. But the more I heard it, the stronger it made
me. Ultimately, no one knows what goes on behind the scenes for athletes.
“Your support has always given me great strength. I am
convinced that my passion for the sport will continue to drive me forward. I thank
you from the bottom of my heart, for love, for understanding, and support. Love,
Eva.”
