Russia’s tennis star
Andrey Rublev has revealed that he had
a one big discussion with former world number one Marat Safin to ‘fix’ his head
after
Wimbledon 2024. The 26-year-old is often regarded as one of the most
talented players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category.
Despite all the talent, Rublev has remained in the news for
all the wrong reasons, such as losing his cool on the court. Those instances have been a consistent part of the Moscow-born star's career, and he has also been penalised by the chair umpires in the past.
Rublev was recently quoted in a report where he stated that he had a discussion with former
world number one Safin to ‘fix’ his head. The current world number one also
stated that he is aware of his talent and believes that his performance on
the court will improve drastically if he manages to control his emotions on the
court. “(After Wimbledon) I worked to fix my head, because the
problem wasn’t with my tennis. I just focused on fixing my head,” he said. “It’s
gonna sound funny, but it’s all thanks to Marat Safin… We got in contact
somehow, and that’s it. He helped me... Big special thanks to him.”
Rublev is going through a mixed season. He won the Madrid
Open after beating Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime in the final with a score of
4-6, 7-5, 7-5, which was arguably his best performance of the season. Other than that, he also played in the semifinal of the Dubai Tennis Championships, where he lost to Alexander Bublik with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-5. Rublev’s best appearance in a Grand Slam came in the Australian Open, where he was knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to world number one Italy’s Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-3. He is now set to participate in the Croatia Open, where
he will face Camilo Ugo Carabelli in the round of 16 clash on Tuesday.
