Martina
Navratilova, Boris Becker, and Stan Wawrinka are among the tennis legends who
sent messages of support to Andy Murray after his unfortunate ankle injury at
the Miami Open. The former world No. 1 ended his campaign in the tournament
after falling to Tomas Machac 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(5).
Unfortunately
for the Briton, during the third set, he twisted his left ankle, causing him to
scream in pain on the court and requiring assistance from the physiotherapist
just towards the end of the match.
Although
the 3-times Grand Slam champion completed the match, he later shared on social
media the extent of his injury, revealing that he had a rupture of his ATFL
(anterior talofibular ligament) and a near full-thickness rupture of his CFL
(calcaneofibular ligament). Due to this, Murray will be out of the Tour for an
extended period of time.
"Yesterday
towards the end of my match in Miami I suffered a full rupture of my ATFL and
near full thickness rupture of my CFL. I will see an ankle specialist when I
return home to determine next steps. Goes without saying this is a tough one to
take and I’ll be out for an extended period. But I’ll be back with 1 hip and no
ankle ligaments when the time is right," Murray captioned his Instagram
post.
The post by Murray received numerous responses from iconic figures within tennis, such as former tennis players Martina Navratilova, Boris Becker, and Rennae Stubbs.
“Yikes.
Fingers crossed for Andy!" Martina Navratilova posted on X
"Tough
one …. Keep your dream alive finishing on your own term! ( Wimbledon) 🙌🙌🙌 ," Becker commented.
"If
anyone can do it, you can! Sending good vibes mate. You’re a f$cking Warrior! +Love
ya ❤ 🙌 ," Rennae Stubbs
wrote.
Several
tennis players expressed their support for Andy Murray with emojis and short
messages, including Tomas Etcheverry, Sloane Stephens, Stan Wawrinka, Barbora
Strycova, Fabio Fognini, Neal Skupski, Naomi Broady, Sabine Lisicki, among
others. Here are the messages they left on his Instagram post:
""And you should have seen the coffee he had this morning to top off that news. Feel for you mate," Max Purcell wrote.
"Oh no 😢 I twitched when I saw it happen…Wishing you a good recovery! Can’t wait to see you back out there 🙏🏻 ," Sabine Lisicki commented.
"If anyone can do it, you can! Sending good vibes mate. You’re a f$cking Warrior! Love ya ❤ 🙌 ," Rennae Stubbs wrote.
