Following his historic victory at the 2023 Paris Masters, Novak Djokovic has risen past Spanish rival Carlos Alcaraz on the rankings table for the 2024 Olympics Race.
The World No.1 defeated Grigor Dimitrov to win his 40th ATP Masters title, extending his lead over Alcaraz to 2,990 ranking points as the Serbian attempts to finish the year as the top-ranked player for a record-extending eighth time.
The 24-time major champion has now accumulated 5,200 points since mid-June, when the Olympics race started accruing points. Djokovic currently sits 920 points ahead of second-placed Alcaraz, with the Serbian hoping to have one final shot at Olympic gold next year, the one accolade that has eluded him throughout his distinguished career.
With the status of Rafael Nadal in doubt for the 2023 Paris Olympics, Alcaraz could be Spain's biggest hope to clinch a medal at the tennis event. The 20-year old will be competing at his maiden Olympic Games, with the tennis competition slated to run from July 27-August 4, 2024 on the hallowed grounds of Roland Garros.
