The ATP Rankings have been updated following the results of the Cincinnati Open, as Novak Djokovic edges closer to Carlos Alcaraz's No. 1 position and Holger Rune moves further into the top 5.
Following Djokovic and Alcaraz's showdown in the Western & Southern Open final in which the former emerged victorious 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4), the Serb finds himself within reach of the top spot. There was a chance for him to overtake Alcaraz completely at the ATP Masters 1000 event, but that was reliant on the Spaniard not reaching the final.
The 20-year-old now has 9,815 points, meaning he sits only twenty points above Djokovic's 9,795. Moreover, Alcaraz has 2,000 points to defend at the US Open as the reigning champion, whereas Djokovic has 0.

Rune moves up to fourth

Meanwhile, Rune moves up to No. 4, ironically after having gone out in the first round at the Cincinnati Open. His rankings rise was helped by Stefanos Tsitsipas, who failed to defend his runner-up points from last year's Cincinnati Masters and thus dropped to seventh.
This also helped Casper Ruud, who moves back up to fifth. Outside the top 10, Alexander Zverev has moved up from No. 17 to No. 12 after reaching the Cincinnati semi-finals, where he sits 380 points behind world No. 10 Frances Tiafoe. Moreover, Western & Southern Open quarterfinalist Adrian Mannarino has achieved a career-best ranking of 23rd.
On the other hand, 2022 Cincinnati Open champion Borna Coric dropped 13 places from 16th to 29th after being defeated in the third round of this year's tournament. Pedro Cachin was the worst mover in the top 100, falling 17 places down to 66th.
