The action continues to come on the ATP Tour. The best players in the world constantly fight and jostle for the high ground in the ATP Rankings, with the North American hardcourt swing one of the best times to make that charge with a countless number of points set to be handed out.
There is no change in the top five. Jannik Sinner still leads by a huge margin with Alexander Zverev remaining in third behind Carlos Alcaraz for the time being. With the Spaniard not competing in the ongoing Cincinnati Open, he will lose 1000 points and forced to concede the position to Zverev.
Ben Shelton went to Montreal under huge pressure to deliver, and he did. Successfully defending the title, the American number one moves up to sixth in the world ahead of the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Flavio Cobolli who sees out the top 10.
One of the big stories of the week was the continuing rise of 19-yera-old Rafael Jodar. The Spanish sensation has been extraordinary this year, confirming a third consecutive Masters 1000 quarter-final in Montreal before reaching the last-four stage. He could not make it into the top 10, but it seems like sooner rather than later he will rise up to the occasion.

American duo rise to career highs

It was a brilliant tournament for both Learner Tien and Brandon Nakashima. Tien reached the semi-final where eventual champion Shelton blew him away. Nevertheless, he has reached the glittering heights of 12th in the world, breaking new ground.
The same could be said for the losing finalist Brandon Nakashima who again showcased how deadly of a tennis player he is. Shelton also ended his title hopes, but the points earned sees him moved up to 22nd with nine places having been gained.

On the topic of big winners, Daniel Merida is another young Spaniard to have shown his cards on court. After recently winning his first ATP title, he made a run to the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open in only his fourth Masters 1000 event he featured in. He climbed 23 places to debut in the top 40 and prolong this remarkable and sudden rise.
Dutch duo Tallon Griekspoor and Botic Van de Zandschulp gained a handful of places while Thiago Agustin Tirante celebrates a famous win over Novak Djokovic at the Cincinnati Open in tandem of him reaching the top 50 for the first time.
Outside of the top 100, Jack Draper still scrambles for any sort of form following first round exits in Montreal and Cincinnati. Now 143rd in the world, there is a lot of progress needed to be made if he is going to get back among the top tennis players in the world once more.
