The
ATP Rankings were updated this Monday, making official the points earned at the Asian Swing events by the biggest stars. The biggest point beneficiaries were the champions Carlos Alcaraz (Japan Open) and Jannik Sinner (China Open)—both adding 500 points. The update also formalized
Learner Tien's entry into the Top 40 for the first time in his career and Taylor Fritz's return to the Top 4.
The changes in the Asian Swing schedule meant that—rarely—the finals were played halfway through last week. On Tuesday, Alcaraz secured the title in Tokyo by defeating Fritz, and a day later, Sinner beat Tien to also lift a new trophy. The points were officially added by the ATP this Monday, causing a few movements even in the Top 10.
Fritz managed to add 330 points and advance to World No. 4, putting a little more distance between himself and Novak Djokovic, who was out of competition last week. Another player who saw a ranking movement due to being sidelined was Britain's
Jack Draper, who dropped one spot to No. 8 after ending his season a few weeks ago. Alex de Minaur took advantage, surpassing Draper by one position to take the No. 7 spot after reaching the semifinals at the China Open.
Others who gained positions included the Czech Jakub Mensik (+3), who reached his career-best ranking as World No. 16 this week after making the quarterfinals in Beijing, while Flavio Cobolli (+3, No. 22) was also among the beneficiaries despite only reaching the Round of 16 at the same tournament.
Tien and Brooksby lead the charge
The name that made the most significant leap was probably Learner Tien, who debuted this Monday as a Top-50 player for the first time in his career, reaching No. 36. This is especially remarkable for the teenager, who started the season barely at No. 121. With not many points to defend in the coming weeks, he has a good chance of finishing the year in the Top 30—and securing a seeded position at the 2026 Australian Open. Tien could also participate in the Next Gen ATP Finals—where he was a finalist in 2024—though it remains to be seen if he is willing given the huge ranking boost he received, having more than earned his name among the world's tennis elite.
Another name celebrating this Monday is the American Jenson Brooksby, who continues his comeback and advanced 29 positions to World No. 57, his best ranking in nearly two and a half years. The 24-year-old—who was suspended for over a year—reached the semifinals in Tokyo and continues to rise, ensuring he finishes the year in a comfortable position to keep growing in 2026. With his Top-60 spot, he has practically secured entry into ATP-level tournaments and can avoid returning to the Challenger circuit.
Another American who climbed the ranks was Sebastian Korda, a quarterfinalist in Tokyo who advanced 11 positions to No. 63. After a couple of years plagued by injuries, the 25-year-old has taken advantage of the few tournaments he has played to accumulate points and prevent falling too far down the rankings. His goal now will surely be to finish the year as high as possible to start 2025 with better prospects.
