Matteo Berrettini defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in the first semifinal match at the bett1 Aces and booked his final spot.
The young Italian must be a nightmare for
Roberto Bautista Agut. In the last 7 days, Berrettini and Bautista met 3 times, and every time it was the Italian who was victorious. After
recording 2 wins at Thiem's 7 last week, he met the Spaniard also at the
bett1 Aces.
This time it seemed that the result can look better for Bautista. After converting his 2nd breakpoint in the first set, Bautista won it 6-4 and got the lead in the match, and the first set won in the last 3 matches played against Berrettini.
However, it was already the second match on grass this year for the Spaniard and so Berrettini needed to get into his rhythm. He managed to do that in the second set as he didn't allow his opponent to have any breakpoints and converted one of two he had to win the set 6-3.
Like the first two quarterfinal matches, also the first semifinal match was decided in a super tie-break. Bautista led already 5-3, however, Berrettini won 7 out of 8 following points to win the super tie-break 10-6. The Italian will meet fellow countryman Jannik Sinner or Dominic Thiem in the final.
