Matteo Berrettini and Alexei Popyrin are the first two players to win a match at the newly launched Ultimate Tennis Showdown.
After the
first day of play was postponed due to bad weather, fans of the
Ultimate Tennis Showdown needed to wait a bit longer for the new competition to kick-off.
Alexei Popyrin and Elliot Benchetrit were the first two players to play a match and they were followed by Matteo Berrettini and Dustin Brown.
The competition is played with special rules and instead of sets, players play in 4 quarters. Alexei Popyrin started his match against Elliot Benchetrit with a 13-9 victory in the first quarter.
It seemed that Frenchman will be able to come back as he has won the second quarter 12-9. However, the young Australian was better in the following 2 quarters as he has won both to win the match 13-9, 9-12, 15-12, 14-12.
In the second match of the competition, Matteo Berrettini met Dustin Brown. The Italian started a match with a victory in the first quarter when he triumphed 14-10. But also German was able to fight back as he has won the second quarter 13-12.
World number 8 then showed his qualities in the third quarter which he has won 22-5. He added a 13-12 victory in the last quarter to win the match 14-10, 12-13, 22-5, 13-12 and get the first point to the rankings.
