BREAKING 🚨 Matteo Berrettini withdraws from Monte Carlo due to injury. He has a grade 2 tear in his internal oblique muscle. Rune moves to the quarter-finals.
Matteo Berrettini was due to face Holger Rune this afternoon in one of the stand-out ties of the Last 16 at the Monte-Carlo Masters but instead the Dane will receive a walk-over.
Berrettini had to withdraw before the tie after tearing his oblique muscle with a grade two tear. This continues a poor few months for the Italian.
Heavily criticized for perceiving to put his girlfriend, Melissa Satta over the sport, he has also played in challengers in a bid to boost his form to no avail.
He has shown some signs this week of a return to form but these have soon diminished with this latest injury.
