Boris
Becker selected his ‘dream tennis match’ to be against his former mentee Novak
Djokovic at
Wimbledon. The German former player won three of his six Grand Slam
titles at the All England Club, the first of which he claimed at just 17 years
old in 1985. To this day, he still holds the record as the tournament's
youngest champion.
The former
world No. 1 also coached Djokovic from 2013 to 2016, supporting him in six of
the Serbian’s 24 Grand Slam titles, including Wimbledon titles in 2014 and
2015, along with a runner-up finish. For his own part, Becker took the title in
1985, '86, and '89, and finished as runner-up between 1988 and 1995.
Becker imagines facing Djokovic in Wimbledon final
Becker
chose his ‘dream tennis match’ to be against the 24-time Grand Slam champion:
“So many. Listen, I coached the guy. Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. I don’t
know if that’s good for me, though,” Becker told Sportfive.
Back in
2016, after three years, they decided to end their partnership, with both
sharing words of appreciation for each other. “The goals we set when we started
working together have been completely fulfilled. I want to thank him for the
cooperation, teamwork, dedication, and commitment,” Djokovic wrote on Facebook.
The German
replied, “Thank U! We had the time of our life.” Since then, they have
continued to praise each other on multiple occasions.
