Carlos Alcaraz downplayed his three wins over Jannik Sinner this season, focusing instead on improving his consistency. The Italian boasts an impressive 65-6 record, but when it comes to Alcaraz, he has a particular 0-3 record, including their recent meeting in the China Open final.
Sinner and Alcaraz shared the year’s four Grand Slam titles, ending a 20-year dominance where the Big-3 won at least two Grand Slams each season. While Sinner has shown consistency with seven titles (more titles than losses), Alcaraz holds a 51-10 record, with several early, surprising defeats throughout the season.

Alcaraz focuses on consistency

When asked about the significant 3,000-point gap between himself and world No. 1 Sinner in the ATP rankings—despite both winning two Grand Slams and Alcaraz defeating Sinner in all three of their matches—he responded: “Yeah, for sure. I mean, it doesn’t matter that I have beaten Jannik three times. Probably I didn’t play good tennis in some tournaments,” he said.
“You know, my percentage of wins this year is really, really high, but Jannik is on another level this year (smiling), over 91% of wins. Only a few players have ever done this before.”
Alcaraz also mentioned that his main goal is to achieve greater consistency throughout the year and maintain a high level at every tournament he plays. “I think all players are looking to be more consistent over the season. In every tournament you play, you want to go as far as you can. That’s my goal for next year. In the tournaments where I didn’t play well or go as far as I wanted, I just want to do better. I’ll try to avoid first-round losses like I had this year,” he added.
Sinner and Alcaraz could meet again in the upcoming ATP Finals, where they are the top two seeds. Each will lead one of the two Round Robin groups, meaning they can only meet in the semi-finals or potentially the final, depending on their results. They might also have a final clash in the Davis Cup Finals to close out the season, where Italy and Spain are placed in opposite sides of the draw, so they could only face off in a potential final.
