The Tennis community was rocked to it's foundation on Wednesday as tennis legend
Boris Becker announced that he would be stepping down from his position as head of men's tennis in his native Germany.
Numerous fans were left speechless as Becker announced his decision, stating that he no longer had time to do the job which had enabled him to oversee youth development and the country's Davis Cup team.
"Working for the DTB has given me great pleasure in the past three and a half years,” the three-time Wimbledon champion said in a statement. "Unfortunately I currently lack the time to continue with this extensive task."
The six-time Major Champion started the German Tennis Federation in 2017, and his duties included evaluating tennis academies and overseeing youth tournaments. He was also in charge of the country's Davis Cup operations.
“It was a pleasure for me to visit all federal training centers and to deal intensively with the national coaches, but above all with the children and young people," added Becker. "It was a great honor for me to lead German tennis in the men’s and junior division together with Michael Kohlmann and I am convinced that he will continue to do this great job on his own.”
Although Becker will leave the post at the end of the year, the door is open for him to return as he said he would remain on friendly terms with the DTB.
