Stefanos Tsitsipas became the latest casualty on a day already full of upsets, as the fifth seed fell to NextGen star Jenson Brooksby in a Monday night showdown at the BNP Paribas Open
Indian Wells.
Brooksby played the game of his life to prevail 1-6 6-3 6-2 in their third round encounter, energizing the home crowd as he displayed some spectacular shot-making. The 21-year old was aggressive yet maintained a level of poise that belied his young career, forcing his higher-ranked opponent to go for shots that resulted in the Greek making numerous errors.
After running away with the first set, Tsitsipas looked to be in complete control. However, Brooksby fought back valiantly, surprising the World No.5 with his resilience and consistency. The rapturous crowd was fully behind the American, who matched the Greek star shot for shot as he rallied from a set down to close out the match after just over two hours.
With the quarter of the draw wide open, the World No.43 will face the winner between Britain's Cameron Norrie and Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili for a spot in the quarterfinals.
