Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that he is very confident as he prepares to compete at this week's Rolex Shanghai Masters, despite losing his semi-final match at the recent China Open.
The World No. 2 was the top seed in Beijing and ousted Yannick Hanfmann, World No. 18 Lorenzo Musetti, and seventh seed Casper Ruud in straight sets to reach a semi-final clash with sixth seed Jannik Sinner.
The first set was closely contested but Alcaraz's opponent ultimately won it on a tiebreak, before Sinner dominated the second set to win the match 7-6 (4), 6-1. After the match, Alcaraz spoke of his goals for the Shanghai Masters, where he will begin his campaign on Saturday, October 7.
The 20-year-old reflected on his time at the China Open in Beijing, saying that he had enjoyed his run there.
"Well, I really enjoy playing here in Beijing. I think my level was really, really high. I felt really comfortable. Whether if it is my first trip here to China, I feel like I've been playing here for many years. The fans were great, as well. I really felt really comfortable on this court. It was a great tournament for me," he said.
The two-time Grand Slam champion then went on to talk about his aims for the Shanghai Masters, saying that he feels confident and wants to try and win the ATP 1000 tournament.
"I'm coming to Shanghai with a lot of confidence, even if I lost today. But it doesn't matter for me, I just focus on be better, a better player, and focus on do the things that I didn't won today, and try to win the tournament. That's my goal to Shanghai. Hopefully to play the same level that I did in this tournament, hopefully to have good result over there," he said.
