Carlos Alcaraz is preparing to defend his title at the
US Open, but to do so he will have a difficult road ahead.
In the first round he will face Dominik Koepfer, who has just been eliminated from the Winston-Salem Open in the round of 16 by Jiri Lehecka in a hard-fought 3-set match.
In the second round he could face the 26-year-old South African Lloyd Harris. As the top seed, he doesn't have the toughest matchups at the beginning, but things will start to get difficult before the end of the first week.
In the third round his opponent could be Dan Evans, a higher caliber player, world number 28, reached the round of 16 in 2021 and has two ATP titles, one of them recently won at the DC Open, an ATP 500.
In the fourth round, also called round of 16, there is the possibility of a new duel with Cameron Norrie. They met in two clay court finals earlier this season when Carlitos returned from the injury that prevented him from playing the Australian Open, winning one each.
From the quarterfinals onwards comes death. Jannik Sinner, in what would be a rematch of the epic battle last year, or Alexander Zverev, who is returning to the player we knew before his terrible injury at Roland Garros 2022.
In the semifinals, at a level where it is more logical that you can play against world-class players, await Daniil Medvedev, champion in 2021, or Hubert Hurkacz, whom he has already had to face twice in this North American tour. He won both matches but neither was at all easy.
Finally, in the final, Holger Rune, if he is at 100%, or the duel awaited by all tennis fans around the world, a new episode of his rivalry with Novak Djokovic.
