Carlos Moya, Rafael Nadal's coach, has granted an interview to L'Equipe coinciding with the participation of his nephew in the Brisbane Tournament. After his victory over Dominic Thiem in the first round, he was more than satisfied with his game and sensations. On the horizon, Roland Garros, although he is not forgetting the Australian Open;
"Very happy with his performance, especially when we know the circumstances. The level has been very good, probably better than we expected," he commented in statements translated by Cope.
The 22-time Grand Slam winner's coach is clear that his pupil will return to his best level, something he expects to happen in the spring, marking the months of March and April as key in this process:
There was a risk that he might not play again. When will we see Rafa's best level? I think we will see his best version in the spring. We mark in red the months of March or April. Regarding now, he will need about 10 matches to gain confidence, to regain his rhythm. He will be back to his best level.
As to when we will see the best Rafael Nadal again, his coach makes it clear that what they hope is that he can arrive in shape at Roland Garros, although being Rafa, nothing is out of the question:
"With Rafa you can expect anything, I mean, it's Rafa. The idea is to be 100% for Roland Garros. Maybe I will be before, maybe this week. With Rafa you never know. He draws his magic from who knows where, that's why he's Rafa."
