Casper Ruud claimed the victory in the Stockholm Open final against Ugo Humbert, securing his second title of the season. The Norwegian dominated from start to finish to take the win 6-2, 6-3 and is now on the verge of returning to the Top-10.
The three-time Grand Slam runner-up completed a remarkable week with a near-perfect final: he conceded only three points on his serve throughout the match, faced no break points, and secured three breaks from six opportunities. The Norwegian hit a total of 19 winners compared to his opponent’s 14, while committing only 2 unforced errors against Humbert’s 8.
Ruud completed a week where he lived up to his favorite status from the beginning. The second seed defeated Marin Cilic (7-6, 6-4), Sebastian Korda (6-7, 6-4, 6-4), and third seed Denis Shapovalov (6-3, 6-4) on his path to the final. It was the third final of the season for Ruud, who was defeated at the Dallas Open (precisely against Shapovalov) and later won the Madrid Open title against Jack Draper.
This is Ruud's 14th title, though only his second on hardcourts—coming four years after his triumph at the San Diego Open. Ruud now sits at No. 11 in the ATP Ranking, just 35 points behind Holger Rune, and his entry into the Top-10. The Dane recently suffered an injury that will keep him out until next season, and Ruud will have the chance to return to the Top-10 in Basel if he advances at least one round.

Ruud's impeccable serve sets tone against Humber

The first set quickly went in Ruud's favor. He started with remarkable service games and secured a break in the 4th game. The Norwegian held onto the advantage, and Humbert failed to find solutions on the return. Ruud led 4-1, and with the comfortable lead, he had no trouble closing out the set with his second break, winning 6-2 after 30 minutes.
His opponent, World No. 25 Ugo Humbert, was seeking the 8th title of his career (and 5th on indoor hardcourts). Although the conditions seemed ideal for the Frenchman, he could not keep pace with an imposing Ruud. In the first set, his low effectiveness on the second serve (25%) and his inability to trouble Ruud on return were particularly detrimental.

Ruud locks down serve to clinch second set

Things did not improve much for the Frenchman in the second set; he was only winning 55% of points on his first serve and still couldn't find a solution to Ruud's serving. In fact, the Frenchman only managed to win a single return point throughout the second set.
Thus, after about 15 minutes of the second set, the break came for Ruud—who, as in the first set, took the lead in the 4th game and built a comfortable advantage to 4-1. Although Humbert fought to stay in the competition until the end with his serve, it was not enough to threaten Ruud's serve. The Norwegian showed his class and did not hesitate to close out the win on his serve on his second match point, securing the victory 6-2, 6-3 and crowning himself champion in Stockholm.
The World No. 11 still has a couple of commitments before the season ends, with the ATP 500 Basel Open and the Paris Masters as his final appearances of the year. Although he is still far behind, the possibility of entering the ATP Finals remains alive. He is currently more than 700 points behind 8th-place Lorenzo Musetti. However, a strong campaign in Basel and Paris could unexpectedly earn the Norwegian a spot in the ATP Finals if he can maintain the consistency shown this past week.
