Dan Evans has played his final match as a professional tennis career in what has been a messy ending to a brilliant career featuring many positive moments for British tennis. He expected a better send off that a doubles match on Court 15, letting out his raw emotions on the situation.
He had announced his retirement from the sport which was set to come after one final trip to SW19 following a final run on grass. It was set on paper to be a farewell tour around the UK, but that would not be the case.
After his requests for a wildcard at Queen's and a Challenger event at Ilkley were turned down, he was also rejected from getting into the Wimbledon singles main draw via this route, being forced to settle with a doubles wildcard alongside fellow Brit Henry Searle. He did try to qualify for the singles event, but lost in the second round against Tristan Schoolkate 7-5, 6-0.
So it was only the doubles for Evans this time around. Him and Searle would take on the ninth seeds Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, losing 6-2, 6-4.

Evans rants at Wimbledon organisers after wildcard snub and lack of communication

Following his final tennis match, the former British number one let his true feelings known to the organisers of Wimbledon in his attempt to find some answers for why he was not offered a wildcard for his home Grand Slam. "I just don't understand the reasoning - nobody has given me a decent reason," Evans said. "If they said, 'Listen, you're a bit overweight right now'. No, I'm serious. Like, 'you're a bit out of shape'.
"But nobody's had the minerals, or however you want to phrase it, to come over from the governing body, who I think I have done plenty for, and given me an explanation. I just think somebody could have come and sat down and spoke. Like, jeez, I paid enough. That's their job. And that's all."
His misery has been compounded with none of his wildcard requests coming through in a bitterly disappointing way to culminate a fabulous stint at the top of tennis.
"I'm not angry, but jeez, tell the truth," Evans continued. "You can't give me a wildcard into Ilkley? The reasoning was they was all given out. I have been playing tennis for 16 years on the tour, and I have always known that the wildcards aren't given out on a Monday.

Dan Evans tennis career has officially ended
"Monday before a ball is hit on the grass courts in Birmingham, how have the wildcards gone? We've not got a massive pool of players. So I don't care about the wildcard. Listen, I would have loved to play singles [at Wimbledon], but... we all know why that is. Don't give me some nonsense answer about they're all gone at Ilkley. Come on, guys. That's a total p**s-take for me. Excuse my French."
Due to injuries and the fact that he is 36-years-old, Evans has looked towards the future. He had helped Searle out from time to time with a bit of coaching work. "If they turned around and said, 'listen, you've hardly played'," Evans said.
"But it was like, 'you're a coach, you're not getting one'. No, I was out there helping another Brit when I've been injured. I didn't see any of those guys out there helping Henry when he needed help. So that was my point. It's nothing against the club, but somebody come and have a conversation. Communication is a big thing in tennis.
"You know, are they working this week? I have not seen any of them. Serious. No one spoke to me this week. No one has congratulated me on my career this week."
