Novak Djokovic has hinted that his loss to Jannik Sinner could be his final match on the hallowed courts of Roland Garros as despite wanting to continue to play and no retirement imminent, he isn't sure what the future holds.
Djokovic achieved title number 100 at the Geneva Open last month and in reality only really needs to win a 25th Grand Slam now but in the age of Sinner and Alcaraz completing such a feat is a bit more difficult than it was around two years ago even.
We will finally get Sinner v Alcaraz in a Grand Slam final on Sunday. Similar to Sabalenka v Gauff in the women's, it is perhaps the most appealing final on paper from both draws and the seedings. But Djokovic despite figuring at the age of 38 still said that it is a long time between now and next year.
So he cannot be fully sure that he will return. As per Christopher Clarey, Djokovic said: "This could have been the last match ever I play here."
A heartbreaking message for those fans of the great Serbian but also one that has been coming perhaps. While he can still magically compete at his age, he also will want to go out on a high and seemingly is closer to the end now than ever.
Djokovic said that he cannot be sure he will return as a result of the lengthy gap. He will next play Wimbledon, a tournament that holds an even bigger place in his heart.
It is likely that if retirement is a thought in his mind that further clarity is likely on the courts of SW19 than perhaps Roland Garros. But it is one that unfortunately is seemingly likely to come sooner rather than later despite an incredible showcase again from Nole that he still has the tools.

Although Djokovic could not win a single set, he played his best tennis in nearly two years against Sinner.
