Germany’s tennis star Alexander
Zverev has registered an unwarranted record after having some poor outings.
The 26-year-old has recently lost
the opening round fixture of the Japan Open to Australia’s Jordan Thompson with
a score of 6-3, 6-4.
With that defeat, Zverev has now lost
three consecutive matches in ATP events for the first time since 2016. It was also the first time since 2020 that he was on a losing streak of three matches.
The result was definitely going to
be a hard one to swallow for the current world number nine who is now in danger
of missing a spot in the upcoming ATP Finals.
That was not the first time this
year that Zverev has had a disappointing outing in a big tournament.
Despite participating in the main round
of all four Grand Slams, the Hamburg-born has managed to qualify for the
fourth round or beyond in just two events.
His most notable performance came
in the French Open where he managed to play in the semifinal.
However, he ended up on the losing
side to Norway’s Casper Ruud in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-0.
Later on, Zverev also played in
the quarterfinal of the US Open where he lost to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in
straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
