Daniil
Medvedev became the 10th tennis player, male or female, to reach a prize money
of $40,000,000, although still far from the top spots. With the addition of the
Russian, there are now 7 men and 3 women who have surpassed this figure.
The former
world No. 1 surpassed the milestone by reaching the final of Indian Wells
(defeated by Carlos Alcaraz) and added some extra earnings in the semifinals of
the Miami Open.
Medvedev earned $11,548,023 in prize money in 2023, and
his biggest earnings came from winning the Masters 1000 titles at the Miami
Open, Rome Open, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and reaching the final
of the US Open.
Shortly thereafter,
Alexander Zverev also surpassed the mark
in 2024, followed by the 2-times Grand Slam champion
Simona Halep, the third
female tennis player on the list.
In seventh place is
Venus Williams, who has 7 Grand Slam
titles, followed by her compatriot
Pete Sampras, who owns 12 Grand Slam titles
and just over $43 million. Breaking into the top 5 sees a significant jump in
prize money, with
Andy Murray reaching $64 million.
Serena Williams reached $94 million and only trails behind
the Big-3. Third place belongs to Federer with $130 million, just behind the
22-times Grand Slam champion
Rafael Nadal.
Novak Djokovic comfortably leads the list of tennis players
with the highest prize money, with just over $181 million.
